Laser Therapy for Hair Regrowth

What is Laser Cap?

The LaserCap is a prescription-strength laser therapy, FDA cleared for hair regrowth in men and women. Natural and drug-free, this non-surgical, non-pharmacologic therapy, is a light flexible device that can be worn under your favorite hat.

The LaserCap contains true laser diodes, which illuminate the scalp with 650 nm red light. The LaserCap is FDA-cleared to promote hair regrowth in both men and women with androgenetic alopecia Fitzpatrick Skin Phototypes I to IV, Ludwig-Savin classifications of I-II in women, and Hamilton-Norwood classifications of IIa-V in men.

Pulsed wave light emission for prescription strength.

The LaserCap is uniquely engineered to deliver light with pulsed wave emission. This involves switching its lasers on and off many times per second during treatment, causing them to blink, rather than remain on continuously. Studies have demonstrated that pulsing can improve LLLT outcome for patients. Pulsing more effectively manages heat, allowing the laser diodes to cool during the fraction of a second they are switched off.

Laser Cap Difference:

Higher energy dose per treatment;

Pulsing allows for LLLT treatments at higher intensities and for longer durations.10 Since LaserCap is both one of the most powerful LLLT devices for hair regrowth on the market, and uses pulsed output, it delivers a higher dose of light energy per treatment than comparable devices, which use continuous output. Most of these devices in fact deliver a dose of energy well below what best evidence suggests to be optimal.

Higher peak intensity;

 Peak intensity, the maximum amount of energy output per unit area over any given time period, determines how deeply photons canpenetrate into tissues. Pulsing allows for much higher peak intensity without excessheat generation because this energy can be delivered over a very short period of time. This is particularly important when applying LLLT for hair regrowth, since photons must penetrate through the surface layer of the skin to reach the base of the follicle.

More consistent output;

Heat exposure can cause the power output of laser diodes to drop dramatically, resulting in an inconsistent and unpredictable dose delivered to the patient. Even small, barely perceptible amounts of excess heat can cause this. From internal testing we found that the power output of continuous devices can decline by more than 30% even over a 6 minute treatment protocol.11 By comparison, decrease in the power output of the LaserCap was negligible over a much longer 30 minute period.

Improved device durability & longevity;

Since pulsing gives LLLT devices some time to cool off and rest, they are not as stressed during a treatment and over the long term, resulting in fewer device failures, and a greater device lifespan. This is important because LLLT treatments for hair regrowth must be applied long term to maintain results.
